Where to camp
Camping in Western Australia's parks is only permitted in designated campgrounds. This helps to help ensure the special experience of staying in parks can be enjoyed by others now and into the future. Camping and park entry fees also contribute to this goal.
We encourage you to check the information in this camping section and to follow the seven simple principles of Leave No Trace to minimise the environmental impact of your visit.
Information on most campgrounds and other accommodation options in parks is included on this website. Campgrounds on long trails are not included because they are only for the use of bushwalkers and cyclists.
When to camp
Most campgrounds are open year-round although many campgrounds and parks in the Kimberley are closed throughout the wet season from November to April.
Around Perth and down south in the Destination Perth and Australia's South West tourism regions, most campgrounds are extremely busy during school holidays and public holidays between Christmas and ANZAC Day (25 April), and all weekends in that period are popular.
In the rest of the state, the holiday periods from Easter to the Queen's Birthday (last Monday in September) are the busiest.
Bookings
You can book campsites in some of the most popular campgrounds up to 180 days before you arrive.
Where bookings cannot be made
Campsites will usually be available at campgrounds where bookings can not be made, except for the busiest periods, but vacancies are not guaranteed. You should always try to have alternatives in case your first choice campground is full when you arrive.
Follow the payment instructions at campgrounds and/or park entry points. Payment is usually cash only at staffed or unstaffed entry stations, or direct to a ranger or other park officer.
